New York .. a different perspective

by Maryam on August 3, 2010

The day after coming back from the USA, and eating more than zillion of waffles and another zillion of pancakes, I opened my laptop and started to search for the basic waffles recipe I have made before! I remember that this recipe was the best of all the home made waffles recipes. Well to be honest .. I missed America already!

Today, I wanted to show you NY from my digital camera point of view. And to make things more clear, I tried my best to show you rare shots you may never see in any usual tour within NY if you are a foreigner. However, I belive some of the shots will be new to the new yorkers themselves as well!

The photos are randomly ordered. There is no specific sequence. Well, I preferred to start with the first one “central park a natural heaven” to express how much I adore this place. The half an hour I spent there changed everything within me; I was born again! I consider it as one of the best places in the world, although it is man made. Frederick Law Olmsted is the God father of Central park and the country’s oldest state park , the Niagara Reservation in Niagara Falls. I respect this man; I have visited both parks and both of them were more than amazing. I call places like those “heavens on earth”.

In the second photo, I take you back to the city and it’s wonders. One of it’s wonder’s which stuns kids and adults is the m&ms world. In this store anything you imagined is m&ms! starting from the clothes and ending with the biggest varietyof m&ms chocolate colors.

It is raining in new york .. it is not new or a strange thing for the new yorkers of course. However it is new to me! I didn’t expect it at all. The sky was clear and the sun was shining. Everything was so perfect! in one moment everything changed. The wind started to blow, and heavy rain started to wet my clothes. At the end I saw a guy selling umbrellas for $5. The strange thing when he saw me and my friend he told us in this miserable situation “I told you to buy an umbrella before the rain starts!” I turned to my friend and asked her if she remembers him, but she didn’t.

When I visited Canada two years before. I heard a lot about the beauty of Niagara Falls, however, I didn’t have the chance to see it. I even considered that visit to be impossible since my Canadian visa expired. Before arriving to new york, I saw an advertisements for tours takes you by plane from new york city to Niagara Fall and return you back before sunset. The good thing is that, when I asked them about the visa they told me if you don’t have one you can stay in the new york side. That was a very good solution for me. In fact, I imagined that the Canadian side is much beautiful, which turned to be the opposite! Thanks God I didn’t have the visa and wasted my time there!

Many of the new yorkers have seen the statue of liberty guy standing all the day taking pictures with the people in the south side of the central park. This scene may be normal for them, but not for me! The moment I saw him/her I started to laugh. However, a great respect grew inside me! Some people are willing to work and do any kind of job (since it decent work) to feed themselves and family. Big regards for the stature of liberty in human form!

to be continued ..

enjoy with love,

Maryam
